⚑ Speed Strategies for Single-Digit Division
1. Multiplication Reversal: Division is the exact opposite of multiplication (a ÷ b = c ⇔ b × c = a).
2. Place-Value Chunking: Break large numbers into known multiples: 84 ÷ 4 = (80 ÷ 4) + (4 ÷ 4) = 20 + 1 = 21.
3. Golden Remainder Rule: When there is a remainder, it MUST always be smaller than the divisor (r < d).
Part 1 60-Second Mental Recall Sprint: Solve each basic division fact as quickly as you can.

πŸ‘©β€πŸ« Diagnostic Observations & Mastery Remediation:
  • Remainder Check: If a student writes an answer like "6 r 8" for problem #21 ($38 \div 5$), point out that the remainder ($8$) is larger than the divisor ($5$). Another group of $5$ could be made!
  • Place-Value Chunking: For 3-digit problems without remainder like $432 \div 9$, encourage students to see $360 \div 9 = 40$ and $72 \div 9 = 8 \rightarrow 48$.
  • Multiplication Reinforcement: Errors in division almost always stem from hesitant recall of the 6, 7, 8, and 9 times tables. Practice inverse flashcards for daily warmups.
